Arsenal 4-1 CSKA Moscow: Gunners have one foot in the Europa League semi-finals after excellent attacking display at the Emirates
Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette each scored twice as Mesut Ozil put on a Europa League masterclass to overwhelm CSKA Moscow and all but book Arsenal’s place in the semi-finals.
He named his strongest side, with Petr Cech returning in goal, and they showed far too much for their Russian visitors with first-half braces for Ramsey and Lacazette sealing a comfortable 4-1 win ahead of the return leg.
Reported Arsenal target Aleksandr Golovin had equalized for Moscow with a stunning free-kick but Viktor Goncharenko’s side was guilty of spurning several other decent chances and have it all to do in a week’s time.
STAR MAN – Mesut Ozil
The German was absolutely incredible on the night and ran the CSKA Moscow defense ragged. Although he is incredibly inconsistent, tonight’s performance showed exactly why he deserves to be so highly regarded in world football. Intelligent running, incisive passing and tricky footwork, the German had his best game in an Arsenal shirt for a long time.

Aaron Ramsey’s goal was quite spectacular, but it was the culmination of lots of intricate play coming together perfectly. The Welshman made the darting run in behind the Moscow backline you would expect from a marauding midfielder. However, it was the sort of run that required a subtle pass to find. Step forward, Mesut Ozil. The German dinked a gorgeous pass into Ramsey’s path and, after taking a quick glance over his shoulder, decided to volley the ball over the on-rushing Igor Akinfeev.
